Dixie Classic Fair 2004 Summary

344,141! A new attendance record was set at the 2004 Dixie Classic Fair which ran October 1st - 10th. It was the largest attendance in the Fair's history. On Friday, October 1st, the Fair opened its gates with one of the most popular special promotion days, Wendy's/107.5 KZL Day at the Fair. Fairgoers are able to ride unlimited rides for $15 with a coupon from a participating Wendy's. This special promotion day is repeated on Monday and Tuesday of the Fair.

Other special promotion days include School Day, Senior Adults Day, Special Education Day, Lowes Foods Can Day and Winston-Salem Journal sponsors Family Day at the Fair on the last weekend of the Fair.

Free entertainment was offered in a variety of locations on the Fairgrounds. The grandstand entertainment included two Demolition Derbies, Bull riding, and Figure 8 Racing. There were also nationally-known artists Joe Nichols, Keith Henderson, "Illusions of the King", Big Daddy Weave, and Buddy Jewell.

Other musical performances were found on the clock tower stage which included Cindy Johnson, Raggs Kids Club Band, Centennial Squares, Phase Band and Mission Critical. Also on the clock tower stage, Hypnotist, Marc Savard, hypnotized the audiences daily.

There was a variety of other popular attractions found throughout the Fair such as the Kuykendall Border Collies, Circle C Petting Farm, Buford Bear & His Miniature Truck, BC Characters, Swifty Swine Swimming & Racing Pigs, and the Cirque Equinox.

Yesterday Village was as popular as ever, with Blacksmith Demonstrations, Apple Cider, Apples, Apple Dumplings, Homemade Ice Cream, Tinsmith - Michael Felk, Chainsaw Artist - Jerry Ward, Loom Demonstrations by David Lineback, Decorated Christmas Trees and Wreaths, Antiques in the Museum, Antique Equipment Display, Old Salem Bakery, King's Classic Bakery, Special Food Contests in the Pavilion, Wine Tasting and all of the restored log structures.

There were also a number of entries for competition for blue ribbons and premiums. There were more than 70,000 square feet of exhibits that ranged from livestock, poultry, baked goods, fine arts and crafts, vegetables and flowers.
